Bournemouth have announced former Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose will succeed Andoni Iraola as their head coach at the end of the season.

Last week, Iraola confirmed he would step down from his role at the Vitality Stadium after three hugely successful campaigns.

The Spaniard led Bournemouth to their best-ever Premier League finish (9th) and points tally (56) last term, and they are looking to go better in both categories in the coming weeks.

After back-to-back victories over Arsenal and Newcastle United, the Cherries are eighth in the table with 48 points, firmly in the hunt for European qualification.

And they have wasted no time in confirming Iraola's successor, revealing on Monday that Rose had agreed to take the reins on a three-year contract. 

A club statement said of Rose: "The 49-year-old arrives on the south coast with a wealth of experience at the highest level of European football, having managed Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

"The club's immediate focus remains firmly on finishing the current campaign as strongly as possible, with the players and staff continuing to show full commitment to achieving positive results and building on the current 13-game unbeaten run.

"Everyone at AFC Bournemouth looks forward to welcoming Marco to the Vitality Stadium as he begins his role as head coach in the summer."

After leading Salzburg to back-to-back league titles in 2017-18 and 2018-19, Rose spent two seasons in charge of Gladbach before joining Dortmund in 2021.

He only lasted one campaign at Signal Iduna Park, though, as they finished as distant runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

He was then in charge of Leipzig between September 2022 and March 2025, overseeing their second major trophy win in the DFB-Pokal. Rose has overseen more games (90) and victories (49) in the Bundesliga than any other Leipzig head coach, winning 54% of them.

He will have big shoes to fill on the south coast, though, as Iraola has overseen 39 wins, 35 draws and 35 defeats in 109 Premier League games at the helm, with his 36% win rate being the highest of any Bournemouth manager in the competition (O'Neil and Eddie Howe both 29%, Scott Parker 25%).
