Carles Gil believes the New England Revolution "are on the way" to becoming a championship team and winning trophies.

The 33-year-old made his 200th regular-season appearance for the club last time out against the Columbus Crew, and scored the winner in a 2-1 victory.

Gil dispatched a penalty with five minutes to go, securing a comeback win and seeing New England move up to fifth in the Eastern Conference ahead of their trip to Atlanta United.

Since joining the Revs in 2019, Gil has won the Supporters Shield in 2021, the same year he was named MVP.

The Spaniard is determined to win more silverware with New England and is confident they are on the right path to do so.

"New England is the most important club in my career. I’ve spent many, many years here, and I am very happy," said Gil.

"For me, what is most important is winning games. It’s what I want with this team and in the end when I finish my career or when I finish my years here, what I want is to look back and have won a trophy.

"I think we are trying to be a championship team. Obviously, it’s not easy. We need to keep improving, but I think we are on the way."

Atlanta, meanwhile, have struggled to find form in MLS this season, with just one win from their opening eight games in 2026.

They lost 2-0 at home to Nashville SC last time out, leaving them 14th in the East and level on points with bottom side Orlando City.

Aleksey Miranchuk is Atlanta's top scorer this season, finding the back of the net four times in seven games.

The Russian impressed in the defeat to Nashville, recording a team-high eight touches in the box, two successful dribbles and three chances created.

Gil's goal against Columbus was his first of the season, and it was his 50th career strike in MLS.

He is the fifth active player to reach at least 50 goals and 50 assists in his MLS career (50 goals, 84 assists).

MATCH PREDICTION: DRAW

The Revs are in good form ahead of their trip to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, winning each of their last four games in all competitions and last three in MLS.

New England have also got the better of Atlanta of late with wins in three straight matches between the two teams, dating back to July 2024. The Revs during that period have outscored the Five Stripes with five goals for and one against.

The previous MLS fixture between the clubs saw New England come out on top 2-0 at Gillette Stadium last season. Dor Turgeman opened the scoring before Leonardo Campana also found the net.

However, Atlanta's only win this season came at home, defeating 2025 Supporters' Shield winners Philadelphia Union 3-1 last month.

New England have lost six consecutive regular-season away matches, the club’s third six-match road losing streak since 2023.  

The Revs have had one longer road losing streak in league play over the last 25 years, dropping eight straight away from home in June-September 2017, which included a 7-0 defeat in Atlanta.
